LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — The 2025 Machinist Union Transportation Conference hosted by Local Lodge 845 took place over four exciting days at the iconic Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event, which brought together union members from across North America, including representatives from American, Southwest, and United Airlines, was a resounding success. The conference served as a pivotal platform to discuss the future of transportation, the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the labor sector, and the ongoing fight for equality in the workplace.
Local 845 Vice President, Tina Swarner, officially opened the conference with a warm welcome, highlighting the significance of solidarity in the ever-changing landscape of transportation. “It is an honor to gather here with so many dedicated members from all corners of the continent, as we look toward building a better future for working families in the transportation sector,” said Swarner.
Throughout the conference, attendees were inspired by key speeches and presentations from leaders within the union. IAM International President Brian Bryant delivered an empowering address, stressing the importance of unity in the face of challenges and the need to prepare for the future of work. His remarks were met with applause and set the tone for the discussions that followed.
One of the highlights of the event was the spirited speech by Hasan Solomon, who energized the crowd with his impassioned call for increased worker rights and a fairer future for all in the transportation industry. Solomon’s words resonated deeply with the audience, reinforcing the importance of strength in numbers and the union’s role in navigating future challenges.
The conference was expertly led by Richie Johnson, the General Vice President of the IAM Transportation Territory. Under Johnson’s leadership, the sessions covered a wide range of topics that are crucial to the future of transportation, including the rise of Artificial Intelligence and its implications for labor. As AI technology continues to reshape industries worldwide, the discussion centered on how it will affect jobs, workers’ rights, and the role of unions in advocating for fair compensation and protections.
In addition to AI, the conference placed a strong emphasis on equality—with panel discussions focused on promoting diversity and inclusion within the transportation sector. Union leaders and members shared strategies for ensuring that the workforce remains representative, equitable, and accessible for all.
Attendees were treated to a dynamic and inspiring experience, filled with thought-provoking conversations and hands-on workshops. As the days progressed, it became clear that this conference wasn’t just about discussing the present—it was about looking toward a brighter, more inclusive future for the transportation workforce.
The event concluded with the highly anticipated “Sneaker Ball”—a celebration that brought together union members in a spirit of camaraderie, fun, and solidarity. The Sneaker Ball was a perfect closing to a memorable event, reminding everyone that while the work is serious, it is also important to enjoy the victories along the way.
With a renewed sense of purpose and a clearer vision for the future, members left the 2025 Machinist Union Transportation Conference energized and ready to tackle the challenges ahead.
Local Lodge 845 looks forward to continuing to lead the charge for workers’ rights and standing strong for the values of equality, fairness, and solidarity.
