Feburary 2, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we, the members of Machinist Union Local 845, mourn the loss of our brothers and sisters at American Airlines following the tragic events that unfolded at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport on January 27, 2025. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and loved ones affected by this heartbreaking incident.
Additionally, we are deeply shaken by the tragic air disaster that occurred on January 29, 2025. These losses have sent waves of grief throughout our community, and we stand united with the families, friends, and coworkers of those involved in both incidents. During this incredibly difficult time, Local 845 extends its heartfelt support to all those affected by these tragedies.
As we grieve, we are reminded of the critical importance of safety, particularly when it comes to the work we do on the ramp. Our jobs are some of the most dangerous in the industry, requiring constant vigilance, training, and adherence to safety protocols. The tragedies in Charlotte are a stark reminder of the risks we face each and every day.
Ramp safety cannot be overstated. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that we take every precaution to protect ourselves and our fellow workers. We must stay vigilant, always following proper safety measures and looking out for one another. The work we do is vital, but it is also dangerous, and it is only through unwavering attention to safety that we can help prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
Local 845 encourages every member to renew their commitment to safety—whether through thorough training, reporting potential hazards, or taking a moment to check in on a fellow worker. In honor of those we’ve lost, we must continue to foster a culture where safety is the top priority at all times.
The loss of our brothers and sisters is a solemn reminder of the vital role we all play in keeping our workplaces safe. Let us stand together, stronger than ever, in the face of adversity. We are family, and we will support one another through this painful time.
Our hearts remain with the families, friends, and coworkers affected by these tragedies. You are in our thoughts, and we are here for you.
In solidarity,
Machinists Union Local 845
