IAM Local Lodge 845 is proud to announce the successful completion of our Summer Food Drive, which resulted in a significant donation of non-perishable food items to Three Square Food Bank—an organization committed to feeding individuals and families across the Las Vegas Valley.
This year’s drive was organized and led by Karen Mexiner, Chair of the Local 845 Community Services Committee, whose tireless work made the entire effort possible. Karen brought together union members from multiple airlines, including Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines uniting them around a shared mission of giving back to the community.
With schools out for the summer and many cafeteria programs on pause, thousands of children in Southern Nevada are at greater risk of going hungry. Local Lodge 845 stepped up to help bridge that gap.
“The summer months can be especially hard on families who rely on school meals,” said Karen. “That’s why this drive was so important—to make sure no child or family goes without during these critical weeks.”
Thanks to the hard work of Karen and the generosity of our members, the food drive collected a large quantity of non-perishable food items that will be distributed by Three Square Food Bank to families in need throughout the region. Three Square continues to play a vital role in feeding the Las Vegas Valley, partnering with schools, community centers, and local nonprofits to deliver meals where they are needed most.
In addition to the collective efforts of our union members, a special thank you goes to the Moore family, who generously contributed a substantial food donation that helped make this drive one of our most successful yet.
Karen Mexiner’s continued dedication to both Local 845 and the wider Las Vegas community serves as an inspiration. Her leadership of the Community Services Committee reflects the very best of what it means to be union—compassionate, organized, and committed to lifting others up.
IAM Local Lodge 845 extends sincere thanks to every member who participated, donated, or helped spread the word. Together, we are making a real difference—one meal, one family, and one act of solidarity at a time.
